The coconut tree (Cocos nucifera) is a member of the family Arecaceae (palm family). Origins date back to Australia, India and South America thousand and thousands of years ago. Coconut Oil is extracted from the kernel or meat of matured coconuts harvested from the coconut palm (Cocos nucifera). Because of its high saturated fat content it is slow to oxidize and, thus, resistant to rancidification. Not only does it soften the skin, but protects it against harm, promotes healing, and gives it
a more youthful, healthy appearance. Almost 50% of the fatty acids in coconut
oil is the 12-carbon Lauric Acid. Both lauric acid
and monolaurin can kill harmful pathogens like bacteria, viruses and fungi.
